The 508 room Mac Village at Boggabri was officially opened on Saturday preparing the way for an expected massive influx of mine workers next year.
The complex is the biggest ever development in Boggabri and is the jewel in the crown of MAC projects in Australia, the MAC’s managing director, Peter McCann told Saturday’s opening ceremony audience.
Hundreds of Boggabri district people inspected the facility and the village drew plenty of favourable comments.
“It’s like a resort,” many said.
The opening was attended by official guests Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries, Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson and Narrabri Shire councillor Cath Collyer representing the council.
Mr McCann said the village development represented a successful collaboration between ten local businesses and a total of 65 local and regional contractors and suppliers.
“This year alone, from January to September, we have spent over $6.2 million with businesses and suppliers across the region,” he said.
“Through a dedicated local recruitment drive we have employed over half our staff from Boggabri and local towns and we hope to further increase the number of local employees.
“As our village expands there will be further employment opportunities available in a range of hospitality roles.
“We expect early next year will see an influx of activity, and benefits, for Boggabri.”
