The region’s finest produce was on display at this year’s Nosh on the Namoi, which was attended by thousands on the lawns of the Crossing Theatre last Saturday.
Budding chefs battled it out at The Courier Corporate Cook Off, with Narrabri Shire Council’s team of Pat White (general manager) and Conrad Bolton (mayor) awarded the highly sought after trophy.
The pair had to battle several other teams for the prize, including one consisting of the Shire’s parking inspector, Arthur Birch.
“At least our cars won’t be booked today,” said a crowd member jokingly.
Judge Annie Alexander also joked when Mr Birch accidentally began cooking too early.
“I’m going to fine you for starting early!” she said.
Mr Bolton said he was “shocked” upon winning the trophy.
Nosh began on Friday night, with the Nosh Cocktail Night held under a marquee on the lawns of the Crossing Theatre, with Sydney band Venus Music entertaining the crowd.
The band then played again on Saturday night in the marquee, where many people stayed on to enjoy a few drinks and some music at the end of the busy day.
Winner of the Best Product was ‘Lindy’s Tomatoes’ and Best Exhibitor went to Kristy Bapagni from ‘Baccos Bakery’ at Murrurundi. Their photos will appear in Thursday’s edition.
The celebrity chef, former Masterchef contestent Chris Badenoch, gave several cooking demonstrations in the Courier Cook Off tent and mingled with locals well into the evening.
The event was well-attended, with buses from all over the region, and Sydney, ferrying people to the festival. The evening finished with an impressive fireworks display.
