Boggabri’s water supply is back to normal after two separate incidents earlier this week which led to the need for urgent repair work.
On Tuesday at 9.30pm Boggabri encountered the breakage of a rising water main which feeds the town reservoir.
Emergency work continued late into the night to repair the break.
A further incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning with another burst
water main in a different section of the town, along Oakham Street. It resulted in the Boggabri town reservoir water level to drop to critically low levels.
Residents were asked to refrain from using water where possible while crews undertook the work.
Residents along Oakham Street between Brent and Dalton streets had their water totally cut off while the burst water mains were repaired.
Narrabri Shire Council general manager Diane Hood said everything was back to normal as of this morning.
“I’m very proud of the engineering team, they got it fixed as quickly as possible and it was back to 100 per cent in the tank this morning,” Ms Hood said.
“The incidents were a combination of ageing infrastructure and very dry conditions.”
Meanwhile, water pressure continues to be of concern to Boggabri residents.
A petition has recently been distributed around the town calling on the council to act.
Ms Hood said an interim fix is currently in place.
“The MAC Village has very cooperatively agreed to change their pump schedules outside of peak times,” she said.
“There are some ongoing issues with water pressure and they will continue to be investigated with the interim solution in
place.”
