Nosh judges Chris Badenoch, Toby Moore and Ash Carolan worked their way through 20 entries.||
Narrabri home brewer Tim Boehm emerged as the king of the home beer makers at the inaugural Nosh on the Namoi home brew contest.
But Tim’s win, with a Porter beer, style, was no easy win.
“The standard of the entries was very high,” said head of the judging panel, Ash Carolan.
“We went right down to the wire in the final judging.
“As we began tasting the 20 entries we quickly realised that this was going to be a tight competition.
“The beer making across all the entries was sophisticated and true to style.
“But Tim’s winning entry was a superb beer and ticked all the boxes in terms of adherence to the traditional Porter style.”
The judging panel comprised Ash, Toby Moore, and Chris Badenoch.
“We were fortunate to have Chris on the judging panel,” said Ash.
“He has a wealth of knowledge about beers and in fact owns his own craft beer brewery.”
The home brew contest will definitely be on the program for the 2015 Nosh.
“We received our entries from across the region, mainly from Narrabri but as far afield as Tamworth and Newcastle.
“Next year we may restructure the competition into three categories, heavy and light beers and cider.”
Tim Boehm is a veteran home brewer.
His winning Porter is a darker beer and had its origins as a style favoured by London dockside porters of 200 years ago.
