
As planning continues for the Daft Punk Global Album Launch Party at the Wee Waa Show on May 17, the focus continues to be on accommodation options.
Owners of Seplin Estate Wines, Lindy Widauer and Archie Smolders, hope to host a weekend-long after-party for 2500 people, offering primitive camping in a 25-acre paddock and regular entertainment.
They’ve been discussing plans with event managers Yaldi Boomtime, which would take care of much of the organising and logistics such as security.
But Narrabri Shire Council has not approved the event as yet.
Council is assessing the proposal this week and hopes to give an
answer soon.
With all accommodation in Wee Waa booked out that weekend, Council and the Show Society have been discussing the pros and cons of organising a “tent city” at Seplin Estate or some other venue in Wee Waa.
Meanwhile, residents are pitching in to make sure the thousands of ticket-holders to the official event at the Wee Waa Showground will have a great time while in the cotton capital.
Wee Waa Rotary Club has decided to overhaul its large greeting sign in Rotary Park, which will be one of the first things visitors see when they venture over the levee bank.
Dewson’s Quality Meats owner and butcher, James Dewson, is planning new recipies for the event, such as ‘random access rissoles’, named after the album to be released, Random Access Memories and ‘daft pork sausages.’
The Wee Waa Pony Club has also written to Sony to put forward its case for catering for the visiting media and Sony representatives in the Pony Club kitchen, and is waiting a reply.
Last Saturday The Crossing Theatre made a surprise announcement by selling 80 late-release tickets to the event.
Excitement is building for the album launch, with one of its songs, Get Lucky, released early at the weekend, which Sony said went to number one in 46 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom and France.
