Wave Hill Road residents want to see their road sealed as soon as possible as truck traffic and dust increase.||
Wave Hill Road residents are keenly awaiting the start of sealing along their road.
The route serves two quarries and extraction volumes will increase over the next two years, meaning more trucks on the road, they point out.
“The quarries are  getting busier,” said resident Tony Hamblyn.
“The number of trucks is growing and the dust is an ongoing very serious issue.
“We want this sealing  underway next summer, and well and truly completed in a two year time frame.”
The Joint Regional Planning Panel (JRPP) granted a Development Application for an increase in the extraction rate from one quarry recently, on the basis of a Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) that would see the road sealed.
Tony Hamblyn said the residents were looking to the shire council for action.
“As far as the council is concerned we have nothing written and we have no confidence,” he said.
“All this has been talked about before and nothing has happened.
“We have had verbal agreements before. We need some proof there will be dust suppression in the interim period as a mater of urgency” he said.
“The dust is just hanging and not moving. The dust still hangs there half an hour after a truck has gone through.
“Anyone going up the Wave Hill Road will find plenty of trucks and plenty of dust.
“I want to see pressure on the council. We road residents are the meat in the sandwich. The road has been neglected over the years and they have to act urgently.
“We have letters on file from years ago sent to the council, quite heated submissions.
“When council first recognised we had a problem it was two decades ago. Now we have two or three times as many trucks and there will be many more.”
