New group in town - NextGen committee members Melinda Léculier, Emily Robinson, Grace Farrer, Carla Campbell with Crossroads hotel manager Mark Page. The hotel will host the first meeting.||
The Narrabri district’s next generation of young professionals will launch a new networking group next month to provide an opportunity for 18 to 35 year olds to meet on a regular basis and discuss issues influencing the region.
‘NextGen’ have already secured a string of successful business people and politicians to speak at monthly functions, including Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries.
Founder, Carla Campbell, saw the need for NextGen when she moved back to town earlier this year.
“There has been an influx of young professionals moving back to the shire and I noticed that, despite having such a large number of skilled young people in town, there were very few opportunities to network and grow professionally,” she said.
“I also think the young professional population of Narrabri is not that well represented in the town’s leadership positions, like the Shire Council and the Chamber of Commerce, so hopefully a group like NextGen will encourage the younger generation to step-up into the town’s leadership positions and help shape the future of the region.”
NextGen is inclusive of all industries, and plans to help the younger generation become more informed in areas such as agriculture, mining, health, governance, finance and business.
There will also be a strong focus on celebrating the region’s young professionals, and hearing from those have been successful in their field of expertise.
Committee member, Grace Farrer, is encouraging organisations, businesses or anyone new to town to make contact with NextGen.
“We want to work with the rest of the community to help newcomers meet likeminded people, get involved in community activities and enjoy what Narrabri has to offer,” she said.
“Like us on Facebook so we can let you know when our next event is coming up and hopefully highlight career opportunities and progressions.”
NextGen’s first networking event will be held on Friday, November 7 and all young professionals are encouraged to attend.
