Narrabri Shire Council wants to dramatically increase the entry fees for all three of its pools, The Courier can reveal.
The charges would apply to the Narrabri pool, which would attract the highest rise, Wee Waa and Boggabri pools.
Annual passes would also significantly rise under the proposal.
The changes are contained as part of a raft of proposals in Council’s 2013/2014 draft budget, which has been adopted by councillors and currently on public exhibition for written submissions.
Single entry fees at Wee Waa and Boggabri pools would rise from $1.70 for children and $3.20 for adults to $2 and $3.50 respectively.
The Narrabri pool entry fee would rise from $1.70 for children and $3.20 for adults to $3 and $5 respectively.
The biggest price rises would be for family passes, which can be used by up to two adults and four children.
A 26-week family season pass at the Wee Waa and Boggabri pools would rise from $260 to $416.
At Narrabri, the same pass would rise from $260 to $624.
A 12-month pass would rise to $1,248.
The cost of the family passes across all three pools have been devised based on the same methodology.
It is calculated based on two adults and two children attending a pool twice a week, multiplied by the number of weeks (eg 26 or 52 weeks) and subtracting a 20 per cent discount for paying up front.
“It costs Council over a million dollars a year to operate all three pools, none operate at a break-even point, so to try and reduce the cost to the people that don’t use the pool we’ve applied a methodology across the board that is consistent,” said director of corporate services Paul Wearne.
Submissions for any aspect of Council’s 2013/2014 draft budget can be made to the general manager in writing by Friday June 21 at 9am.
