Visiting landscape designer and ABC personality Costa Georgiadis more or less turned the first sod of a proposed scenic walking and cycle path along the Narrabri Creek when he recently visited Narrabri as guest of Nosh on the Namoi.
Costa planted a tree to make a symbolic start to what the walking and cycle track supporters will be a new community asset.
Proponents of the path want to see a track begin at Cameron Park and follow the river bank down to the low level bridge. The track would be a route for locals and for tourists, explained path proponent Guy Roth.
The route would ultimately include local historic and indigenous cultural features.
Mr Roth has mobilised local residents who support the plan.
The supporters of the walking and cycling path were encouraged by the announcement prior to the election that the NSW government has allocated $20,000 towards design of the track.
Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries announced that the funds would see the design of the shared path from Narrabri Hospital area to the CBD via Narrabri Creek reserve and Violet St low level bridge.
The funds are part of a $40 million investment by the Baird government in 380 walking and cycle tracks across NSW, Mr Humphries said.
The shared path supporters are keen to enlist the support of Narrabri Shire Council in taking the project forward to reality.
