
It was a damp start for Narrabri Show on Friday, but fine weather on Saturday and Sunday saw a highly successful 2015 show staged by a committee comprising new members alongside ‘veteran’ show organisers, a winning combination for the community event.
Rainy skies cleared to shine on a successful Narrabri Centenary of Anzac Show on the weekend.
Show organisers were pleased with the results of the show which drew a large crowd on Saturday after a cool and damp start on Friday.
Despite Friday’s rain, horse events were successfully conducted, pavilions operated and scheduled attractions went ahead.
On Saturday crowds thronged the pavilion exhibits, admiring traditional show features from school students’ work, this year with an Anzac theme, to an impressive flower show, cooking and photography sections, the always popular animal nursery, sheep and cattle sections, demonstrations by whipmaker Tony Angel and more.
Sideshows were kept busy on Saturday afternoon and night.
On Friday night showgoers braved the weather to see the Show officially opened by Narrabri RSL sub branch president Mr Ken Craddock OAM and the Narrabri Showgirl entrants introduced.
The solemn theme of Anzac commemoration was marked with the reading of the Ode of Remembrance by Mr Craddock and a minute’s silence was observed.
The Grand Parade was headed by Mr Charles Allen, Warialda, wearing the uniform of the famous Australian Light Horse.
Show president Ms Cheryl Pawley led a committee which staged a highly successful event.
This year a new feature, Paddock to Plate, focusing on local produce and local chefs was launched.
Guyra owner of Paddock to Plate, Louise Fitzroy, hosted the event, introducing local chefs and producers to the audiences at sessions on Friday and Saturday.
The Paddock to Plate sessions were entertaining and informative, and hopefully will be an annual feature.
A highlight of the Saturday night program was the performance by Rooftop Express, presented by David Manchon celebrating the Outback and its residents, the stockmen, horses and dogs.
