On the eve of World Suicide Prevention Day, which falls today, a community day was held at the Narrabri Bowling Club on Saturday, to highlight that help is available to those who need it.
The J & J Funday aimed to raise community awareness of suicide, and let people know support is here.
There were hundreds in attendance, which kicked off at midday with 40 teams in a bowling competition, with great prizes thanks to the generosity from a large number of businesses around town.
Local group Life Worth Living Narrabri District was the beneficiary of the $15,000 raised at the event.
“Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians under the age of 44 and we all have a role to play in suicide prevention,” said Sarah Green, rural adversity mental health worker and co-chair of Life Worth Living Narrabri District.
“World Suicide Prevention Day is about hosting local activities to create public attention for one of the world’s largest causes of premature death,” said Sarah.
Committee member Karly Mercer added: “The aim of the J&J Funday was to promote increased awareness about the problem of suicide and its fabulous to see the whole community getting behind this event.”
