Narrabri Shire councillors are set to discuss the possibility of moving the Narrabri Visitor Information Centre to a new location.
The Courier first reported on the issue in October, after a letter was published from resident Ellen Gleeson, who wrote she was “concerned to hear rumours” about a possible move.
At the time, Narrabri Shire Council director of corporate services, Paul Wearne, told The Courier that council staff had discussed the issue.
“We are always looking at ways of potentially improving efficiency, and an internal working party is looking at the pros and cons of doing it,” Mr Wearne said at the time.
It was rumoured at the time that the Tourist Information Centre could potentially move to a space inside The Crossing Theatre, and that the Narrabri Library could also be the subject of discussions.
At this month’s meeting of the council, the issue came up in a closed session - meaning the media is unable to sit in on proceedings, usually held when something is commercial in confidence.
In minutes published by the council after the meeting, and publicly accessible, it said the councillors were asked to “consider the Discussion Paper presented and receive all possible outcomes in relation to the Narrabri Library, Visitor Information Centre, and The Crossing Theatre.”
A minute, moved by Cr Ken Flower and seconded by Cr Cathy Redding, was carried “that the council receive and note the report and that a decision on the matter be deferred until council has workshopped the overall financial and asset plan, prior to March 2014.”
The mayor, Cr Conrad Bolton, told The Courier that he couldn’t comment further because the discussion was held during the closed meeting.
He said further discussions would take place early next year at a future council meeting.
