Something to smile about. Narrabri High students and staff are delighted with the school’s Year HSC results. Fifty eight students from the school received their results yesterday. Above, deputy principal Annabel Doust, high achieving students Julia Constance, Aphrika Gregson and Alixa Holcombe, and Year Advisor Amy Johnson. Julia is considering a course in animal science at Charles Sturt University, possibly leading into veterinary science, Aphrika plans to study science at Melbourne University and Alixa aims to be a fashion designer.||
Narrabri High students have again acquitted themselves well, with pleasing results in this year’s Higher School Certificate.
Students are now looking forward to results of applications for university and other courses and setting out on their career pathways.
Narrabri High School is traditionally a high achiever among country schools.
“These are good, solid results for those students who put the effort in,”  Principal Mr Rod Jones said.
“It is worth noting that many students were just one mark below achieving a Band 4, 5 or 6,” Mr Jones said.
Mr Jones has been acting principal for the year and has been confirmed as permanent principal from next term.
“As a school, our future focus for 2014 and onwards is to extend our middle and high-achieving students,” he said.
“Plans are in place for teachers’ professional learning and the implementation of new teaching practices, and training has already begun based around the principles of Assessment for Learning.
“This will continue for the next one to two years.
“We are very proud of our students and whatever their results, they have concluded a major educational achievement.”
Sixteen Narrabri high students achieved 20 Band 5s (a mark of more than 80 per cent) or Band 6 (more than 90 per cent) results across 10 different subjects.
Band 6 results were attained in Music, Textiles and Design, and Industrial Technology (Wood), in which the students’ results were well above the state average.
Band 5 results were gained in the above three subjects, plus Food Technology, Geography, Senior Science, Biology, Business Studies, Software Design and Development and Ancient History.
Students who could be contacted who did particularly well include Julia Constance (Band 6 Industrial Technology Wood and Band 5 Biology), Alixa Holcombe (Band 6 Textiles and Design, Band 5 Ancient History), Sarah Cameron and Clare Campbell (Band 6 Music), Rhiannon Herbert (Band 5 Business Studies, Food Technology and Geography), Michael Wheeler, Dean Gray, Joshua Gleeson, Todd McFetridge (Band 5 Industrial Technology Wood), Jono Druce (Band 5 Music), Luke Hiscock (Band 5 Software Design and Development).
The Courier invites HSC students to share their plans for their post school careers with the community.  Please phone 6792 1011.
