The Salvation Army is calling on the Narrabri community to support the annual Red Shield Appeal Doorknock this weekend.
Residents are being asked to either give generously or give up a few hours of their time to raise funds for the initiative which helps to support people in need within the community and across Australia.
The Salvation Army’s Narrabri Lieutenant, Alice Folan-Foley, said the generosity of the people of Narrabri will help to ensure that the organisation can continue to support the vast amount of people in need of social services.
“The residents of Narrabri and Australians across the country can help us ensure that we reach our target of $10 million for this year’s Doorknock Weekend. Volunteers who are willing to spare a few hours to rally around the Narrabri community are key to The Salvation Army reaching our goals and raising funds that go directly back into our programs and social services,” said Alice.
The Salvation Army operates a number of programs across Narrabri, including the family store which sells clothing and furniture to those in need, a welfare program two days a week to provide food and energy assistance to people who may be struggling in those areas, positive lifestyle skills programs, counselling services and opportunities for special loans for those who may be unable to obtain a bank loan.
Salvation Army spokesperson Major Bruce Harmer believes that Australians have never been in more need of basic assistance with things such as food stress taking its toll on many people.
“The Salvation Army can pick up families who fall on hard times and help with issues from drug, alcohol and gambling rehabilitation to food assistance, skills development and job placement. It’s imperative that we maintain these services and the Red Shield Appeal Doorknock is integral to providing the funds so we can coninue to help those that need it,” said Major Harmer.
“By giving just a few hours of your time, you can help us assist over one million Aussies in need this
year.”
Every dollar which is raised from the Red Shield Appeal Doorknock Weekend will go towards helping people in need.
Narrabri residents can register to volunteer for the doorknock this Sunday, May 25, at the church, 19 Doyle Street, Narrabri.
