Narrabri’s renowned community choir, Harmony Inc. completed its fine-tuning this week to take on the best of the north-west choral groups at the 44th Dubbo City Eisteddfod on Saturday.
Harmony Inc. is competing in four sections – open chamber choir, open choir, open sacred song and open championship choir.
The local troupe of 16 will take six songs to the adjudicator and will be competing against choirs from Dubbo and Mendooran.
Held at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre, the Dubbo Eisteddfod is one of regional significance with individuals, groups and schools from Dubbo and surrounding towns taking the stage.
A host of cultural talent will be on display during the month of June, with the Dubbo Eisteddfod providing a forum for performance in the disciplines of Vocal, Choral, Dance, Speech, Drama and Instrumental. Professional adjudicators assess and mark all performances.
Success at eisteddfod singing relies on flawless harmony, balance, musical accuracy and interpretation, and for the Dubbo City Eisteddfod, Harmony Inc’s six songs are Come In And Stay Awhile, Tea for Two, Rosebud in June, Four Seasons In One day, God Be In My Head, and Sweet Sweet Spirit.
After the Dubbo performance, Harmony Inc will take on a program of learning well known songs from the musical theatre repertoire.
Harmony Inc. Music Director and Conductor, Julie Fawcett, said the mastering of the six songs for the Narrabri and Dubbo City Eisteddfods had been a significant challenge for 2014.
The Harmony Inc. choir of around 25 local singers would now start afresh with new works in time for some public concerts later this year.  When new material is introduced, it is the best time for new singers wanting to join a group, she said.
“Harmony Inc rehearses for two hours from 7pm during school terms on Tuesdays at the Uniting Church. The next rehearsal is June 10 and new voices are always welcome to join in the fun.”
