Geoff Eather can be called a veteran after 40 years voluntary service with the Boggabri State Emergency Services (SES.)
For four decades Geoff has stepped up when emergencies strike his community.
The catalogue of call outs has encompassed some of the worst car accidents, natural disasters and
situations most people are more than happy to leave to others to deal with.
Geoff was recognised for his years of service as an SES volunteer at a ceremony at Narrabri’s The Crossing Theatre on Saturday attended by members and their families.
Member for Barwon,  Kevin Humphries, presented awards to
volunteers from the Narrabri, Boggabri, Wee Waa and Pilliga units with Long Service Awards ranging from five years to Geoff’s 40 years of service.
Geoff and his colleagues across the shire SES units, Narrabri, Boggabri, Pilliga and Wee Waa were congratulated by Mr Humphries and Member for Parkes Mr Mark Coulton, deputy Narrabri shire Mayor Cr Cathy Redding and Namoi Region Controller Andrew Galvin.
“One of the strengths of the NSW SES is the great team spirit and friendships that develop and this strength sees volunteers staying with the service for many years,”  said Namoi Region Controller, Andrew Galvin.
See Mayor’s column page 2 for award recipients.
