Pilliga Road traveller Wayne Kirkness believes a section of the busy Wee Waa to Pilliga road is dangerous, with large potholes creating a hazard.
“A few hundred metres towards Pilliga past the Brigalow Creek bridge there is a one kilometre stretch of road that needs repair, with ten or 12 big holes,” he said.
“They are more like craters than potholes,” he claimed.
“I have had three windscreens damaged by trucks throwing up big rocks from these holes.”
“I have been to the council three times to complain.
“I was told at the first meeting I had a valid claim and should lodge an insurance form, but was later told there was no legal recourse whatsoever.
“I have had three windscreens broken in the same section. One nearly killed me - a huge rock came right through the windscreen.
“I am really annoyed. And I can’t talk to anyone at the council,” Wayne claimed.
“The first time I was told to make a written claim, so I came back with a letter making the claim and saying I thought the road was sub substandard.
“The day after I sent my letter in and was told I would get my insurance form through the mail, they sent the guys out to fix it and they did some repairs.
“In eight days I got other photos showing the road trains coming through there and it had returned back to the original condition, or worse, in just eight days.
“I am not talking about ordinary potholes. I am talking two or three metre craters not on the edge, but in the road.
“A reduced speed sign has been put up but nothing has changed.
“The repairs only seem cosmetic. This has been going on for a year.
“But I believe the craters have made that road section a real danger spot.”
The shire council has confirmed that the Pilliga road is on the agenda for major rehabilitation work in the coming financial year.
