Last week, 45 Year 10 students and four teachers went to Thredbo for the annual ski trip. It was an early start on Monday as we departed at 5.45 am and we arrived in Jindabyne (Acacia Lodge) at 5 pm. Rob Wolters was our driver for the week and we would like to thank him for his hard work.
The majority of the students went snowboarding on the Tuesday and enjoyed their lesson and were sensible about only attempting beginner runs. The skiers were also happy with their progress. At the end of the day we had a few injuries, but nothing of major concern. The day concluded with a trip to the Jindabyne cinema.
Wednesday proved to be a wet, windy and cold day with the conditions making the slopes a little more challenging. Some students progressed to a green run, but were restricted by the unavailability of some lifts. Despite this, the students persevered and improved their skills with hot showers enjoyed at the end of the day.
The last day of skiing was on Thursday which was a much better day. Whilst it was still windy, there were more opportunities for the students to test their ability. Once again the students were sensible with only some minor injuries. The group travelled to Young at 4 pm, the overnight destination.
Friday was a travel day and we returned home just before the buses at the end of the school day. Feedback was received from our
accommodation at Jindabyne, that some of the people staying there were impressed with the behaviour of students. Rob Wolters also made this comment. From the point of view of the teachers, all of the students were compliant and punctual.
Overall, this was another successful excursion which gave students an opportunity which isn’t usually available. Importantly, it also gave students valuable life lessons and an opportunity to experience an area quite different to Narrabri.
