ANZAC DAY: The recently completed and dedicated new Narrabri war memorial will be the focal point of Saturday’s Anzac Day commemoration ceremony. Above, returned World War 2 Australian Army serviceman Mr Arthur Wells, 88, of Burigal Street Narrabri West, will be accompanied by his brothers World War 2 veteran Charlie Wells and Korean veteran Ron Wells, and Arthur’s son Dennis Wells, who recently retired from the Army after 37 years’ service, when he participates in the Narrabri Centenary of Anzac march and service on Saturday. Many former Narrabri shire residents are returning to the district to take part in the special 100 year Anzac Day commemoration on Saturday.||
The stage is set for a special Anzac commemoration on Saturday when the nation honours those who have served and died in wars.
This year Anzac Day has particular significance as the 100th anniversary of the birth of Anzac.
In Narrabri, across the shire, and across Australia communities are expected to participate in large numbers to remember and pay their respects to the fallen.
Narrabri’s Anzac service will be preceded by the traditional march culminating at the new Narrabri war memorial at Narrabri RSL Club.
Narrabri RSL sub branch president, Mr Ken Craddock said he anticipates that Narrabri will see its biggest ever observance of Anzac Day.
The ceremony has been the focus of careful planning over a long period, with the completion of the new war memorial a significant community achievement.
Special tiered seating will be erected  on the vacant block opposite Narrabri RSL Club to help accommodate the expected audience.
A highlight will be a flypast at 11.30 by a RAAF Hornet fighter flown by Squadron Leader Ben Sawley who will make a north to south pass over the memorial.
