Abbeyfield House Narrabri, which will provide specialised accommodation for people with a disability, has been boosted with a $5000 donation.
Last Wednesday, Lyn Sing presented a cheque to Marion Pike, Helen Scaysbrook and Kim Scaysbrook from Abbeyfield Narrabri Incorporated, with the funding provided through Best Employment’s BEST in the Community Program.
The BEST in the Community Program provides organisations, groups, and charities with the opportunity to apply for funding to run activities or programs that will assist disadvantaged people within local communities. BEST supports initiatives that further its mission to eliminate disadvantage in the communities in which they operate.
In thanking Lyn for the invaluable support, Marion and Helen said that the money would allow the residents to purchase a couple of lounges, a blu ray television and a CD player for the loungeroom in the Abbeyfield House.
The Abbeyfield Society, which originated in England, has developed a service model for adults with a disability who have low to moderate support needs.
This approach uses a shared home which is community managed, where residents have their own rooms with separate access, but can also use shared dining, kitchen and lounge rooms.
A housekeeper also lives on site.
The Narrabri Abbeyfield House will incorporate 10 residents’ rooms - each comprising a floor area of approximately 33 square metres - private ensuite, bedroom and living room. It will also feature two guest rooms available for use by parents, family and friends of residents who may wish to stay overnight at the house or for emergency or respite accommodation, one housekeeper residential unit and shared lounge rooms, dining room, games room and courtyard.
