It’s a sight usually just seen in big cities, but now Narrabri too will be home to a ten pin bowling alley.
The Crossroads Hotel has been building the two-lane bowling alley as part of a major development next door to its main bar over the past few months, and it’s hoped the new recreational facility will open within weeks.
Proprietor Campbell MacIntosh says the facility will benefit Narrabri and the wider business community by enticing people from across the region.
“It will be another attraction for Narrabri to draw people in from surrounding areas and this will assist the greater business community here in Narrabri,” said Campbell.
“Parents will have a place where on a cold, rainy or hot day they can bring their kids for a relaxing afternoon.”
Campbell said the bowling alley will be open seven days a week for all types of occasions.
“We’ve already had enquiries for functions and parties,” he said.
The two-lane alley is full-length, and state of the art with electronic scoring on digital screens.
The complex fronts on to Maitland Street and is designed so that people can access the bar’s courtyard from the rear of the bowling alley.
While the bowling alley is largely complete, the accompanying bar is yet to be finished, along with final touches here and there.
Campbell has spent “several hundred thousand dollars” on developing the bowling alley, which is set to be another jewel in Narrabri’s crown, adding to the town’s indoor swimming complex which opened earlier this year, and The Crossing Theatre; all facilities unique to a country town the size of Narrabri.
“It’s good for Narrabri and continues to build on the strong foundations that the town has already,” Campbell said.
He and his wife Narree have backed their confidence in the future of the town and district with the major investment in the community.
