It may be winter in Narrabri but that didn’t stop celebrations of the Aquatic Centre’s one-year anniversary over the weekend, with locals from all ages getting involved in the ‘pool party’ action.
Along with live music from Jazz Junction, jumping castles and laser-light disco fun, the day also had some important water safety messages from ‘Lance the Lifesaver’ and his Bondi Rescue counterparts Ken and Jack.
The boys from Bondi gave an interactive and informative tutorial on the dangers of the surf.
“It’s great to come out here to regional areas and help educate swim safety,” Ken said.
“95-percent of drownings occur in rips on our Australian shores, so we need to do something to draw awareness to this.
“Although here in Narrabri you wouldn’t get many rips, however it’s important to know when local families go for a coastal vacation and find themselves at the beach.”
There are now 50 registered Bondi lifeguards stationed at the iconic beach.
