Narrabri Rotary is celebrating recognition of achievements as a club, the service of individual Rotarians and the induction of new members including the youngest ever.
Rotary held its annual Changeover Dinner recently at Narrabri Golf Club.
There were several major highlights of the evening.
On behalf of the club the outgoing President Bev Bartlett received a Presidential Citation with Distinction awarded to the club by the president of Rotary International.
The Citation is presented for club achievements across a spectrum of community and club activities.
“This is a rare honour for any Rotary club and a first for any club in the whole Rotary district 9650” commented Narrabri Rotary publicity officer Darrell Tiemens.
Individual Rotarians were also awarded at the Changeover.
Warren Michell, Max Cameron and Bev Bartlett, were presented with Paul Harris Fellowships, an internationally recognised acknowledgement of Rotarians’ outstanding service to the club and the community over a number of years.
The awards were presented in front of the recipients’ families who were aware of the impending honour and attended the presentation, but had kept the awards quiet leading up to the event.
Rotary inducted three new members at the dinner, Joan Burrell, Jocellin Jansson and Annita Kennedy.
Annita Kennedy is the youngest ever member of Narrabri Rotary.
The past year has seen an influx of new members mainly younger professionals in the community.
The year has been a big one for Narrabri Rotary which has conducted community programs including the annual Bowelscan project, the Science and Engineering Challenge, provision of tiered seating for Collins Park, support for exchange students, support for Narrabri High School students’ recent visit to Cambodia, ongoing support for global Rotary activities to fight Polio, a Samoan School Project and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service as well as numerous other activities keeping members busy.
